Pamela Hart:
I am a landscape oil painter, and the sole creator
of this body of work.
My subject matter is very traditional; my painting style
floats between realism and impressionism. I take inspiration
from many Chicagoland parks and forests. I
work with oils, on linen, over a tempera emulsion under painting.
I use tightly woven linen as a support as it is archival.
I begin my work with a charcoal drawing and finish with transparent
and semitransparent paints. The light passes though the surface
layers of paint, reflects off the underpainting, and bounces
back to your eye. In this way my paintings are lit from within.
This process helps give greater depth and luminosity of color
to my work. My paintings reflect sharp contrasts in dark and
light. I find that once I get the shadows in place the highlights
come easily.
I try to evoke the feeling the viewer could just walk
right into my work.
