Sasha Kinens:
When I first saw the paintings of the Symbolists and the Pre-Raphaelite artists, I felt an immediate connection. Their sensitive, romantic subject matter moves me still. Their symbolic stories captivate and inspire me to create my own tales of life today. Painting is not only therapeutic but serves as an emotional release.”
Called a latter-day symbolist, Kinens work is heavily influenced by Symbolism and the Pre-Raphaelite movement in the tradition of J.W. Waterhouse and Odd Nerdrum. Trained in classical realism by James Prohl, Kinens disdains reality and instead provides a visual journey into her emotions. The technical aspects of her classical training have given her the freedom to paint realistic figures and place them in unrealistic or mystical settings.

Of Latvian descent, Kinens’ work has been featured in galleries in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Milwaukee. Kinens has received numerous public and private commissions, including a painting for the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado and a portrait of writer Russell Kirk. She has also illustrated several children's books and teaches private art classes.

We will be featuring the work of Sasha Kinens, oil paintings inspired by vintage French Poscards , around the corner at Coquette Cafe
