Anastasia
Azure:
Anastasia Azure creates dimensional-weave, sculptural
wall mandalas, by interlacing textiles and metalsmithing with
contemporary materials. The geometric patterns of a mandala
represent the essence of the universe as a harmonious system.
Weaving, as a structure and a process, embodies rhythm and
order. By combining plastics and wire, she utilizes a traditional
textile technique in which two distinct layers are loom-woven
simultaneously. The layers undulate and intersect, exploring
the grace of geometry.
Anastasia recently completed a three-year artist residency
at the Appalachian Center for Craft. She has earned degrees
from the Revere Academy of Jewelry Art in San Francisco and
the California College of Arts and Crafts.
Her work won the 2008 Niche Award for Handwoven Fibers. She
was featured at the ACC Baltimore show as a 2008 Searchlight
Artist. AmericanStyle magazine highlighted her in the August
issue, “Emerging Artists 2007: 10 to Watch.” Her
artwork is published and exhibited nationally as well as internationally.
